Guidance for Scouring

The past couple of months we have had an increase of wool washing.  So far in 2026 we have washed 104kgs. This is the main basis of the business as we offer 2 forms of scouring:

                   - Circular scouring where wool is processed using less water, energy and chemicals takes around 6                         weeks to wash for the first batch
                   - Reduction of resources, still no chemicals used

An increase of scouring (washing wool) requests has led to this list of tips to ensure your wool is  scoured/washed well:

                 1. Ensure your wool is dry during shearing, a full fleece, not Swiss cheese fleece and minimal plant                         and dirt waste within the wool.
                 2. The wool is not older than 5 months old
                 3. Been stored in a dry location and not in a plastic garbage bags

                 4. Is moth, mice, parasite and felt free.

                 5. Helpful to know the breed of the wool, how healthy is the wool and land that the sheep feed from

                 6. What is the end use or application is for the wool
                 7. Do you need the wool to be carded? or felted?
                 8. How many kilos?
                 9.  Do you have any questions for me?  Heb jij en vraag voor mij?

Happy to assist your scouring/washing needs. Whether it is 2kgs - 400kg we can scour your wool.

Ensuring that the right wool is used for the right job!

Questions, News and tips

As  from 18/02/2026 the cost of Gas and Electricity has increased thus we need to increase our costs for scouring and also drying by  2.50 per kilo.

Sometimes fleeces have become felted which means they cannot always be scoured/washed.   Your waste will be charged at 2,50 per kilo and will be returned to you or we charge for disposal of 3.50 on your behalf.  You will be notified how much wool was wasted.

At the moment there a 3 week waiting time for wool to be washed as of the 10/03/2026.

We look forward in continuing to work with you.
                                                                                                                                           Sincere
                                                                                                                                          Woolly wishes x
